Day One : ⅕

(The one with the flying creature)

As the captions state, you can’t plan everything, and that sums up this short.

That sums up pretty much my entire journey of writing TEOWAD.

I didn’t set out to rewrite things twice.

I didn’t set out to take over two decades (of non-consistent) writing.

I didn’t set out to drop all my other personal projects and spend the last year or so intently focused on finishing off the story (with consistent writing).

I didn’t set out to write four books, I thought it would just be one.

But it turns out a ~350,000+ word book is a tricky sell as your first publish.

So things didn’t go to plan.

There wasn’t really a plan.

But if there had been, it wouldn’t have been this.

And so I ended up with three books mostly finished (the fourth 10% done) before I even realised I could and probably should publish.

  • Publish before the world gets flooded with AI generated slop.

  • Before people stop reading books.

  • Before I’m taken away from this world by a tall dark stranger who likes scythes and CAPS LOCK.

Explanation

This is probably my most straightforward short. It tries to give the feel that the book has events the characters just have to roll with, and so do I —and so does every author.

It also gives the first hint that this story takes place in another world.

You should also note how this is another short that goes on for a long time.

This was the first feedback I had from people more skilled at getting noticed online.

That I needed to shorten my shorts.

But as soon as someone says that kind of thing to me, I feel this compulsion to do the opposite. So, I’m afraid to say, some of my following videos got even longer.

Some might call me contrary.

I prefer to call myself annoyingly awkward with a complexity obsession.

The good thing is that this naivety fits in with the ‘Day One’ plan, that I’m learning what I need as I go… trust me, that’s what I was going for.

Honest.
